Some Days
Some days are diamonds and some days are stone—that’s what
I’ve heard my whole life. My parents were often too busy building for tomorrow
or for themselves to really shape who I was. That job ended up being finished
by my Grandma, my friends, and even my supposed enemies. The last few weeks
have been a trial for me, between the stress of the surgery, the adventure with
the fridge, and the malfunctioning of the fire alarm.
Life seems to have handed me one stressor after another. My
oldest child and I often just recognize it as our run of luck, where a few good
things come our way only to be snatched up by an even longer run of bad luck.
But inside, I still try to keep in mind that despite how much life mistreats
you, you should never mistreat it.
For years now, I’ve kept online relationships with a
randomly chosen few people. It’s not like we have anything in common; it
usually started with me or them admiring the work of the other. Recently, one
of those friends was struggling—don’t ask me how I know, I just knew. And while
we have only communicated through images and short text, I decided to write
them an encouraging poem and send it to them over a DM. Where I received my
blessing was from the lovely gesture of appreciation and gratitude they sent
back to me.
So this is where this whole story begins. No matter how much
shit life hands to you, it doesn’t give you the right to hand shit back. For in
my world, what goes around comes around. If you need a blessing, then you give
a blessing—that’s just the way it works. Remember when I said some days are
diamonds and some days are stone? It’s your attitude on those days by which you
will be judged.
