When It Happens
You ever have one of those mornings when you get up, the
sun is shining and it’s not too hot. You go into the kitchen make your first
cup of coffee that's just right and you can even hear the birds are signing outside your
window. So you take in a deep breath and just know it’s gonna be a perfect day. Know what I mean?
After a warm morning shower you get dressed in your favorite
outfit and head to the office. All your favorite tunes from the 80’s are playing on
the radio as you to hit all the green lights on the way to work. Then as you pull
into the parking lot and see your favorite spot isn’t taken and you pull in. Wow, how good a day is this going to be,
right?
As you walk into the office you notice Bob in the cube next to yours decided not to shower in Old Spice this morning, instead he may have actually taken a shower. In the break room the crew left two untouched donuts in the box and an
actual pot of fresh coffee on the burner. You wonder if for a minute you are dreaming,
but you’re not.
But the as you return to your desk with your coffee and a
couple of donuts, and sit in front of the monitor you quickly realize, all hell
has broken lose. Can I get an Amen up in
here?
There’s no point in filling in the details, I’ll let all of
you do that yourselves. Because I guarantee you everyone reading this has their
own story of doom and destruction to tell that started with those damn singing
birds. The reason I’m writing is because this morning started just like this,
all sunshine and fresh coffee and even a hummingbird in the flowers. Then it
happened. The entire perfect morning ruined by a single incident that cascaded
into a snowball of fire and brimstone that put a halt to every good thing that
was happening. Well, not really.
You see while none of us likes a bad day, we do have them.
The point is to not let the bad over take the otherwise good day. Instead of running
around let a chicken with his head chopped off (seen that, not a pretty sight). Allow yourself to stop for a moment
and breathe through the process. You’ll discover, as hopefully I will someday,
that all that running around doesn’t solve anything. It only raises blood
pressure, and hurt feelings, and even harm business.
