I chewed a little longer on my vitamin gummies to let the sweet taste linger in my mouth. Knowing that today I’ll be without any sweet tea, because we are out of sugar. Now that the sweetness has dissolved and replaced with the taste of coffee, I can go about my day with less disappointment and more determination.

I’ve already watered my grand-dogs and cats this morning, releasing them into the backyard and feeding them fresh food. My oldest and her family are on a little holiday, so I’m feeding and watering the herd. At noontime I’ll check on them again and see if I need to let them back into the cooler house until 3pm. If the temperature is decent like yesterday, I’ll leave them out till dark.

The responsibilities of childcare never really leave you I suppose. I remember our first child as an infant, she was a crier. My only way to get her to sleep was to place her on my belly laying down. Which you may think isn’t a bad way to go, but I had to work and sleep. So I spent many a sleepless night worrying that I’d roll over on her.

But apparently I didn’t, since she’s about to celebrate a milestone birthday next year. (Don’t worry they never read any of my shit). Anywho, the added responsibility of taking care of the animals gives me an excuse to get out of the house for a moment and stretch my legs. While the continued dizziness is a bit of a bitch, at least the dogs haven’t forgotten who I am.

Unlike the rest of the world so often does, when you remain silent and the world finds little value in your calm. For many of us creators are little more than nothing unless we shock you with our anger.

Kinda sad, don’t you think?

 I sit here today, feeling and looking as disheveled as an old drunk from the wrong side of town. I guarantee my 83 year old father-in-law has more pep in his step then I do right now.   I just popped my gummy vitamins into my mouth; they are the treat I give myself after taking my pills. In the distance I can hear an ambulance taking one of my fallen brothers or sisters to the hospital. Out here in the wild frontier of the slow moving South, we play by a different set of rules. Some of us listen to our doctors, while some of us don’t. Some of us hedge our bets against a Preacher or faith, while some of us raise hell till our dying breath.   Here in this house we’ve done a little bit of it all. Singing Hallelujah!   Opening the windows to the bright sunshine this morning. There was still a layer of fog draped over the ground of the pecan grove next door. Earlier this morning while me and my bride get dressed, I usually glance at my phone to see if I had any messages from the night before. Among the messages was one in particular from a lovely woman who’s poetry I admire and have come to know. Mind you, I keep no secrets from my bride, and she knows the name of nearly every person I communicate with online. Well after reading her lovely note I flirted a bit and said, “All that’s missing was a photograph”. Which she sent a picture of her at her desk. I sent her back a note say, if any man didn’t appreciate waking up to that in the morning, they were a damn fool.
